Growing up on a dairy farm in western Ohio, Darwin Guggenbiller learned early that meaningful things take work.
As one of seven kids, there were always cows to feed, hay to bale, and jobs that needed to get done. Everyone pitched in. It wasn’t glamorous work, but it taught him that meaningful things take effort, and nobody builds anything worthwhile alone.
If you had asked Darwin what he wanted to be growing up, the answer would have been easy: architect.
What fascinated him wasn’t just the finished product. It was the building process itself. Taking an idea and finding a way to turn it into someone’s home. Creating something useful. Something lasting.
Then, he discovered television.
A high school media program introduced him to storytelling, and what started as a new interest quickly became a new direction.
The path changed from blueprints to broadcasts, but the desire to build never went away.
Darwin went to Ball State University and eventually started a career in television news. He produced broadcasts in Ohio, Connecticut, and North Carolina, led teams, solved problems under pressure, and learned how to keep a lot of moving pieces headed in the same direction.
Today, he brings that same mindset to Idea Decanter.
Whether he’s helping advisors navigate a project, solve a challenge, or tell their story, Darwin is still doing what he’s always enjoyed most: taking an idea and helping bring it to life.
When he’s not helping clients, you’ll likely find him planning his next international adventure, experimenting in the kitchen, spending time with family, or convincing himself he doesn’t need another German car.
At the end of the day, Darwin’s approach is simple: work hard, take pride in what you do, and create something others can be proud of too.
