I hate to tell you this, but your “Monday Morning Plan” doesn’t work.
Let me say up front, you are not alone in thinking that it will work. I’ve even tried it myself: “I’ll just post every Monday. I like keeping it fresh.”
Maybe this works if marketing is your full-time job and you have ironclad WiFi. But you’re an advisor, not a full-time marketer. And even though I’m a full-time marketer (and running a business, too) it has not worked for me.
I was in Florence, Italy when my hotel WiFi went dark for three days. I was home in Kenmore when a storm took our power for ten days (#WhyILoveKenmore). I’ve been buried in client work and completely blanked on writing my LinkedIn newsletter until it was already too late. And I do social media marketing for a living.
So, if you’re a financial advisor trying to stay consistent on your own … just winging it week to week … I can guarantee that life is going to win that battle eventually. You’ll go dark. Your prospects will forget you were ever showing up. And starting over is so much harder than just having a plan.
Life happens. And life doesn’t care about your editorial calendar — unless you actually have one.
A content calendar isn't a luxury. It's a life raft.
I’ve watched it happen again and again with clients: they launch their video plan with genuine excitement! They’re in it! And then they get busy, they miss their quarterly recording session, and suddenly they have nothing to post. The momentum is gone. The audience barely noticed them to begin with. And starting up again feels like going back to square one.
A content calendar changes that dynamic. It means you’re not staring at a blinking cursor on Monday morning wondering if you have anything to say. It means you’ve already done the thinking. Even if you’re a strong writer, even if you’re good on your feet, you will hit writer’s block. A simple spreadsheet with pre-populated topics or themes gives your brain permission to skip the blank-page panic and get straight to the work.
It keeps you on track. It keeps you consistent. It keeps you organized. And it means you’re not scrambling to create content the moment you run out of it (which, from experience, is the worst possible time to try).
And it's not just about posting more. It's about placing it everywhere.
We like to think of your video content as a utility player. And the advisors who see the strongest results are using their videos on their website, in their email sequences, in meeting follow-ups, in client onboarding, on YouTube, and on social.
One video. Multiple placements. Working for you long after you hit publish.

How to keep your content from falling apart.
At Idea Decanter, we don’t hand you a content calendar and wish you luck. We build the whole ystem and we run it with you.
It starts before you ever record a single video.
We map out 12 months of content ideas tailored to your practice, your clients, and the conversations you actually want to be having. By the time you step in front of a camera, the thinking is already done. No blank cursors. No “what do I even talk about this week.”
Then we batch. Instead of showing up every Monday hoping for inspiration and a solid WiFi connection, you record in focused sessions, recording a handful of videos at a time, and then you’re done. That content gets scheduled, distributed, and placed by our Post + Promote team across your LinkedIn, YouTube, website, and email list. Consistently. Whether you’re head-down in client work, on the road, or just having a week that got completely away from you.
That’s what we’re here to build with you.
