What do you learn after nearly a decade of showing up on camera as a financial advisor?
In Episode 32, Traci Richmond of The Meakem Group shares the lessons that only come from doing the reps: letting go of perfection, choosing topics that genuinely matter to clients, and using video to create clarity for prospects before they ever book a call.
If you’ve been waiting until your videos feel “movie theater quality,” Traci’s experience is your permission slip to start simpler … and still make a meaningful impact.
3 Secrets from Traci Richmond
1. Get right to the point in short-form video
Short-form forces clarity. And that’s exactly why it works. Traci’s experience is that you don’t have time to “warm up” the viewer with a long intro, a big setup, or a slow walk to the punchline.
Think of Shorts as the front door: they’re designed to stop the scroll and spark curiosity, not to teach everything. When you treat short-form like a headline plus one useful takeaway, you give the viewer a reason to watch … and a reason to take the next step.
2. Send prospects to watch video on your website
Traci uses her website videos to pre-educate prospects before a “Get Acquainted” call, which changes the tone of the first conversation. Instead of spending that call explaining basics (who they are, how they think, how the process works), prospects arrive pre-introduced. That creates a faster path to fit: the first meeting becomes less “tell me about your firm” and more “I watched your videos and I want to talk about my situation.”
It also protects time (both for the advisor and the prospect) because you’re not repeating the same explanations over and over. The website becomes a credibility hub, where your values and approach are clear before someone ever reaches out. In other words, video doesn’t just attract interest. Video qualifies it.
3. Track email reactions and comments on your videos
Traci’s approach to measuring video ROI is refreshingly simple: she watches for human signals. She looks for replies to the email newsletter that includes the video, clients referencing a video during meetings, and people reaching out with questions tied to something she shared. The key is that she doesn’t force it or fish for feedback. Traci tracks what shows up naturally, because that’s the real indicator of resonance. She makes note of those moments so she can see patterns and double down on what people actually respond to.
Over time, she’s seen that response increase from roughly a couple of reactions a month to seven or eight. That’s the kind of ROI you can feel in your practice: better conversations, more engagement, and clearer proof that your content is landing.
